the main british critics (mark kemode et al) have all said this is a fantastic film as long as you haven`t read the book ,if you have read it the film will be spoiled because you already know the intertwining storylines and plots ..personally ive held off reading the book in anticipation of the film ,,also tom hanks apparently seems to be mis matched for this flick yet the british actors are superb ,ie paul bethany as silas ....still anything that can shake up organised religion this much has got to be worth watching

I've read the book and loved it.  I'm sure I'll enjoy the movie for what it is.  Can't wait to see it.

I disagree. They diverted from the book on several key points here. I don't want to spoil it for those who didn't read the book, but I will say I was disappointed with the deviation from the way it was written in novel form.

I have to detract something I said in another thread that nothing out of hollywood is original lately. This is only because it is making people talk. I'm not a religious person, so this movie doesn't offend me. I have seen alot of coverage on T.V. about the book and it's therories. The movie does deveate alot from the book but it does make you think. It probly won't win Tom Hanks another oscar but it is entertaining.

Snag, I didn't read the book but from it's size i'd say the movie would have to remove some details or do something different or it would of been 5 hours long

btw, I loved the movie and tom hanks was great

I thought it kicked ass = I haven't read the book, but figured it out about 1/3 of the way into it.  Damn good film, considering what else is out there.  Go see it.

It's not about removing details, it's about changing things, which in my opinion were a major factor in the story. I hate when they do that.

Well, then don't go see movies made from books, then- it happens all the time.

The Stand was a fucking awesome book, but I thought the movie sucked.  And so on and so forth.  Reading books is, IMO, much better than movies, because you have to use your imagination to interpret what is described to you.  Movies are just someone's interpretation.

Kinda like tripping - two people can take the same dose, see the exact same thing, but experience it very differently - both seeing it at the same time.

Yes, but the Stand for the most part stuck to the story as written by King. My disappointment wth the DaVinci Code is that they changed characters and made Tom Hank's character to be bigger than he was in the book. By bigger I mean they made it look like he figured everything out and maybe I guess they changed his views so the protestors wouldn't freak and say the movie was slanted and one sided. Also some of the story line was changed. I just hate when Hollywood does this for the sake of "entertainment."
